# Disposable email address

A disposable email address is supplied by a temporary-mail service and is easy to abandon or replace. It may receive mail while active, with a lifetime that varies by provider.

## How a temporary mailbox works

A temporary-mail provider supplies an address at a domain it controls. Someone may use it to receive a signup link or another message without retaining it for later correspondence. Some inboxes expire quickly; others remain available longer. The term does not imply a fixed expiry time.

While active, the address can have valid syntax, a usable mail route and a server that accepts messages. Later mail may fail if the provider closes the inbox or its user abandons it. A check of current conditions cannot establish how long the address will remain useful.

## What the domain classification shows

Emvero identifies known temporary-mail providers by domain. For the illustrative address `person@example.com`, it checks `example.com`. The name before `@` does not change this classification: addresses at a listed domain receive the same signal. The [free disposable email checker](https://emvero.io/disposable-email-checker/) shows the current list result for a domain or address.

A match identifies the provider category. It cannot establish the existence, owner or lifetime of an individual mailbox. A domain absent from the list may still offer temporary addresses.

## How the signal affects the result

Verification records the flag in `checks.disposable` and adds `DISPOSABLE_DOMAIN` for a listed domain. Under the current default policy, this changes an otherwise `deliverable` result to `risky`. The signal alone does not make an address `undeliverable` or require `reject`. Other checks provide the delivery evidence.

Choose whether to accept the address according to your service’s intended use. Confirmation can establish current access, but cannot make the mailbox permanent. The [full verifier](https://emvero.io/email-verification/) provides the wider check; the [SaaS trial-abuse guide](https://emvero.io/guides/saas-trial-abuse/) discusses application policy choices.

## Related reason codes

The API uses these identifiers to explain a check. The notes identify values that the current verification policy or probe does not return.
